Data Freshness: The City of Chicago typically updates inspection data weekly. Our system syncs this data regularly, but there may be delays of hours or days between when an inspection occurs and when it appears on our site.

Accuracy: We present the data as received from the City of Chicago. We do not independently verify inspections or visit establishments. The original data may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information. Establishments may have:

Closed permanently
Changed ownership or management
Been re-inspected after the data we show
Made significant improvements not yet reflected in data
Had data entry errors in the original records

About the CleanPlate Score

The CleanPlate Score is NOT an official government rating.

It is a proprietary metric created by CleanPlate Chicago to help users quickly understand inspection history. It has no official standing and should not be interpreted as a health certification or safety guarantee.

How it works: Our score (0-100) is calculated using our own algorithm that considers factors like inspection outcomes, violation counts, trends over time, and data recency. The algorithm is designed to provide a helpful summary, but it has limitations:

It only considers data available in public inspection records
It cannot account for improvements made after the last inspection
It may weight certain factors differently than you would
It is subject to change as we refine our methodology
Different scoring approaches could yield different results

A high score does not guarantee safety. A low score does not mean an establishment is dangerous. The score is one piece of information among many you should consider.
